Fight Pollutant Monsters

Comic strip for children's air pollution discussion

The two air pollutants children may already be familiar with are Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5).

These pollutants are invisible so, as with many adults, children often find it difficult to acknowledge the real and present danger.

We’ve created a short comic strip making these invisible pollutants into visible pollutant monsters, to engage a child’s imagination and as an aid to discussing the harmful air they breathe when near idling vehicles.

A picture speaks a thousand words, so we’ve provided the comic strip without captions to allow children to uncover the story and make the connection between the idling vehicles, pollutant monsters and the vulnerable groups at the bus stop.

There is also a colouring-in version for an alternative way to engage young minds.

We can help our little ninjas fight pollutant monsters by asking drivers to keep clear and not stop, idle and accelerate next to kerbside bus stop shelters.

A child’s health is at risk whenever they spend time next to idling vehicles. If you feel this comic strip would help your child understand more about the dangers of air pollution, then please get in touch. If you’d like to help protect children by stopping vehicles idling at kerbside bus stop shelters, please sign our petition.
